Police badge stops bullet, saves officer's life
North Las Vegas, NV - The North Las Vegas Police badge is only a couple inches of metal but those couple inches may have saved an officer's life.
"The Police Department is extremely lucky that we didn't lose one of our officers last night," says Officer Chrissie Coon. "The bullet did happen to hit the badge, which is almost a miracle."
The 31-year old officer, who's name is not being released right now, was on patrol responding to a call of gunfire at an apartment complex near Losee and Deer Springs Saturday night. When he got out to confront a suspicious person, the man started shooting.
"At this particular time, it is believed the suspect could be a resident of this apartment complex or certainly may know someone who lives in this complex," says

Officer Coon. "So that's why officers keep coming back to this complex to try and find the suspect."
The continued police presence Sunday afternoon worried Damon James, who lives nearby.
"I was just like what is going on," says James. "Because my kids are always here, they go to school over here."
James says he's heard of break-ins in the area before, but nothing like this.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is routine in cases like this. Police tell Action News he is doing ok.
As for the suspect, he is still on the loose. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call North Las Vegas Police.
