Banned! Songs That Were Specifically Banned By Radio, TV, or The Government

This blog entry will concentrate on songs that were banned from being played on radio stations, TV stations and the government. Very interesting reasons why these songs were banned. Alrighteeee, off we go!!!!!

"Girls On Film" - Duran Duran

Duran Duran had the dubious distinction of being the very first band to have one of their music videos banned by MTV.

" God Save The Queen" - The Sex Pistols

Two weeks after signing the Sex Pistols, Virgin Records releases this song to coincide with Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee celebration in June 1977. The song is banned from British airplay because of its "treasonous sentiments." Nonetheless, the song becomes a Number One record in the U. K., listed in some reports with a blank line where the title should be.

"Sorted for E's and Wizz" - Pulp

Banned by the BBC in 1997 because of it's references to rave drugs (despite the fact that they are mentioned in a negative context). The band also drew flack for an insert in the single, which featured instructions on how to make a paper wallet to store drugs in. The single still managed to hit #2 in the UK .
