LOCAL BAND: QUITO, ECUADOR: MOTOZEN

I live in Ecuador and like many great cities around the world there is an Underground/Indie/Alternative scene. First up is a band from the city of Quito. They are Motozen. An indie band as they coined themselves. This band formed in September of 2007. The band started off as a trio first starting first with Alejandro Tobar on drums, Alejandro Naranjo on guitar and Raul Arias on bass. the trio started off playing instrumentals and started auditioning for vocalists and finally settled with Igancio Izquierdo. They started practicing in a small rented basement and the sounds they produced was a sound reminiscent of the (0's indie bands like Joy Division, Gang of Four, New Order, the Smiths and newer bands like Interpol, Arcade Fire, Cansei de ser Sexy, and Editors. Began playing the local scene throughout Quito. Raul left the band in 2008 and was replaced by Luis Cisneros. The band are up and running and are again playing the local scene and will have future dates in and around the cities of Ecuador. This band rocks , take my word for it you will not go wrong with them. Check out Motozen at www.myspace.com/motozen

STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN INDUCTED TO THE WWE HALL OF FAME

On April 4, 2009 The WWE will hold its annual Hall of Fame. This is where wrestlers have the honor of being inducted for their years of service in a wrestling ring. This year Stone Cold Steve Austin will be one of the wrestlers inducted in this prestigious event. Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE history, dare I say even more than The Rock and Hulk Hogan. His feud with WWE owner Vince McMahon is one the most remembered feuds in wrestling history. Congratulations Stone Cold in entering the WWE Hall of Fame.

Lux Interior (The Cramps) R.I.P.

On the morning of February 4th at 4:40 am the world lost a great vocalist. Lux Interior vocalist for the band The Cramps passed away for an pre-existing heart condition. He died at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California. Lux (born Erick Purkhiser on October 21,1946) was the founder legendary garage band the Cramps from1973 until his death. Born in Stow, Ohio, he grew up in the Akron area. He met his wife Kristy Wallace widely known as Poison Ivy in Sacramento in 1972 apparently while she was hitchhiking. The couple formed the band went from California to Ohio in 1973 and then on to New York in 1975 where they became part of the flourishing punk scene alongside bands and artists like The Ramones, Television, Richard Hell, Patti Smith and others. His name Lux, apparently came from a car commercial. The Cramps musical style was termed Psychobilly, a term that was taken from a Johnny Cash song.

A mini special was dedicated this past Saturday(February 7, 2009) on my radio show.

Rest in Peace , Lux
