Lux Interior (The Cramps) R.I.P.

On the morning of February 4th at 4:40 am the world lost a great vocalist. Lux Interior vocalist for the band The Cramps passed away for an pre-existing heart condition. He died at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California. Lux (born Erick Purkhiser on October 21,1946) was the founder legendary garage band the Cramps from1973 until his death. Born in Stow, Ohio, he grew up in the Akron area. He met his wife Kristy Wallace widely known as Poison Ivy in Sacramento in 1972 apparently while she was hitchhiking. The couple formed the band went from California to Ohio in 1973 and then on to New York in 1975 where they became part of the flourishing punk scene alongside bands and artists like The Ramones, Television, Richard Hell, Patti Smith and others. His name Lux, apparently came from a car commercial. The Cramps musical style was termed Psychobilly, a term that was taken from a Johnny Cash song.

A mini special was dedicated this past Saturday(February 7, 2009) on my radio show.

Rest in Peace , Lux

Always Alternative,

Edwin
