10 Years Ago: May 23, 1999

May 23rd marks the 10 year anniversary of Owen Hart‘s death. He was the youngest of the 12 children to Helen and Stu HartHe fell to his death in Kansas City, Missouri on May 23, 1999 during the WWE Over The Edge pay-per-view event when a stunt where he was supposed to be lowered into the ring from the rafters went wrong. Hart fell 78 feet (24 m) into the ring, landing chest-first on the top rope near a corner. Owen had just celebrated his 34th birthday a couple weeks before, and is survived by his wife and two children.

11 YEARS ON THE AIR: EL VAGON ALTERNATIVO, SIMPLY THE BEST IN ALTERNATIVE MUSIC

Well, this past Saturday May 2, was the 11th anniversary of my radio show: El Vagon Alternativo. Wow! I can't believe that it has been 11 years since I debuted this show. So much has happened. I remember so well when this show started. It was a tryout show that was sandwiched in with another show and DJ. His name was Mauricio and he was gracious enough to donate an hour of his show to see how well the audience would accept this new proposal. Initially it was from 9 to 10 pm Saturday nights. This went on for 4 months. Mauricio left and the show was extended to 2 hours, 8 till 10 pm. another two months past till the show was extended to 4 hours! 8pm till midnight. This show has opened the minds of many listeners as to what is alternative music and all of its subgenres. I have introduced many different musical genres to the Ecuadorian community. We have had artists from different parts of the world in the studio for interviews and acoustic sessions. This show is one of the very few that has spotlighted on the local Ecuadorian alternative music scene. Over 500 shows have been on air in these last 11 years and I feel very proud that I have lasted this long. Thank you to the listeners who have stood by me all this time giving me your support and telling me how much this show means to you. Thank you to the new listeners who have contacted me and said how much of an impact this music has been on you.

For those who didn't catch the show this past Saturday, I celebrated teh show with Listener's Appreciation Night. You, the listeners has the opportunity to pick the songs and groups that you wanted to hear. Once again I bring you another local Ecuadorian band from the alternative scene. This time it is Vedette. This band formed in Quito. Vedette are a band that mixes the sounds of Alternative rock with an Ecuadorian style. Band members are:

Open Mind

What is it to have an open mind? Well, someone who has an open mind is receptive to new ideas or information. It is in everything. It should apply also to Alternative music. There is so much out there in this genre that is wise to open up your mind to all the different music that is out there and not be stuck on one genre and say that that is the only thing that exists and put down the other styles in alternative music. IT IS NOT RIGHT. There has to be strong and valid facts to back up your opinion. I needed to get this off my chest. The reason is that there are people who have this mentality and want to knock off everyone.

Que es tener una mente abierta? Bueno, tener una mente abierta is poder aceptar nuevas ideas e informacion. Esto es en TODO, incluyendo la musica alternativa. Hay tanto en este genero que es bueno de poder abrirse la mente a todo tipo de musica y no estancarse en un solo genero y decir que eso es lo mejor. Uno no debe dar critica negativa a los otros estilos de la musica alternativa. NO ES JUSTO. Uno tiene que tener justificaciones para justificar sus opiniones. Necesitaba aclarar esto. La razon es que hay gente que toman este tipo de mentalidad y quieren hacer de menos a todos.
