Los Angeles is the mecca of CD/RECORD SHOPS (Amoeba Records, Bleeker Bob's, Rockaway Records, Poobah's just to name a few.) A couple of Record Shows/Conventions are happening in Orange County and I will definitely be there to buy the rarities of alternative music. This is going to be one fun vacation.
I will try to update this blog in the two weeks that I will be gone, if not, enjoy the vacation time.
The radio show will be handled by my good friend Edison Soto who has a radio show of CLassic Rock (with many rarities). He will fill in for me for the next two Saturdays July 25, and August 1 from 8pm till midnight (Ecuadorian Time) with his show El Museo Del Rock. His show will focus on genres that will make El Vagon Alternativo proud. Genres like Proto Punk, Pre-Punk, Post-Punk, Garage Rock etc. Do check him out. His regular show which you can also listen at http://www.lametro.com.ec/ is on Sundays from 5:30pm till 8pm and Mondays from 9:30pm till midnight.

Today In Alternative Music History: July 20, 1977

On this date in 1977, The Sex Pistols, despite protests, appeared on Top Of The Pops for the first time. They performed "Pretty Vacant". They lip-synched like every act on Top Of The Pops. Johnny didn't try to match it up 100% of the time either.

On July 16, 2001, the wrestling world lost another legend. His name was Terry Gordy. One third of the rebellious group known as The Fabulous Freebirds. He was the greatest in ring performer around. Gordy never lifted weights or participated in organized athletics or likely even graduated high school but his in ring timing and natural abilities were amazing. Gordy died of a heart attack due to a blood clot. Another great wrestler that will be missed greatly.

On July 16, 1988, the Wrestling world lost Bruiser Brody. Brody was arguably the best all around brawler I ever saw and was also one of the most fiercely independent individuals who ever laced up a pair of boots. Brody was senselessly killed today in 1988 at the age of 42. The wrestler who stabbed Brody to death in a Puerto Rican shower at an arena was tried and found innocent. The judicial system works in mysterious ways. Bruiser Brody was an all around great wrestler/brawler and is sorely missed.

The Discreet Charm Of Morrissey

As an idol and role model to millions of impressionable people all over the world, Morrissey is one of music's most quotable figures, his every word taken in by his legions of followers. In this Blog I will be posting his thought out statements, from his days as leader of The Smiths to his present-day solo gig. Enjoy!!

What It Does: Fantastic song!!! It's all perfect with it's simplistic grungy chords and those nasal vocals. Then at the three minute mark there is the incredible blast of uplifting guitar work that will want to make you wish you own a Fender guitar.
