It was twenty years ago today on May 31, 1993, Creation Records owner Alan McGee walked in at King Tut's Wah-Wah Hut in Glasgow to attend a concert and signed a band that would go on to have the biggest selling album of the decade. That band was Oasis! It is interesting to note that McGee usually attended concerts where his bands played and in this case it was 18 Wheeler. He would walk in 5 minutes before his bands would play. But on this particular night he attended the concert with his sister Susan and she never owned a watch so they got there two hours early. He had the opportunity to hear this band from Manchester and by the time Oasis did the Beatles cover of "I Am The Walrus", he knew he had to sign the band.
No one ever thought how successful Oasis would become and what a huge impact they would have culturally. Oasis would go on to sell 70 million albums, have 22 top 10 singles and 7 number 1 albums before splitting in 2009.

Band You Need to Check Out: Savages!
They are London's new Alternative all girl band. They are Savages. Though they may look like they just sprang about , they actually have some history. Well, their lead singer Jhenny Beth has a bit of history. She has been in a duo called John and Jhen before forming Savages. The rest of the band members are
Gemma Thompson (guitar)
Ayse Hassan (bass)
Fay Milton (drums)
Gemma Thompson had come up with the name for the band and had been discussing the idea with Jehnny Beth, for almost a year. Thompson says the band's name was derived from books, such as Lord Of The Flies, that she read when she was younger. The band was eventually formed in October 2011 and they had their first gig in January 2012 opening for British Sea Power.
They take their music very seriously. So seriously, that it's hard to tell if they even enjoy being in a band together. They have a severe image, mostly dressing in black, preferring monochrome publicity shots. Nevertheless, this is a band to definitely check out. They released their debut album, Silence Yourself, On May 5. I for one enjoy all of the tracks on this album and I feel that you will too. Check them out!

The Discreet Charm of Morrissey

In this Blog I will be posting his thought out statements, from his days as leader of The Smiths to his present-day solo gig. Enjoy!!
