Twenty Years Ago Today! May 31, 1993

It was twenty years ago today on May 31, 1993, Creation Records owner Alan McGee walked in at King Tut's Wah-Wah Hut in Glasgow to attend a concert and signed a band that would go on to have the biggest selling  album of the decade. That band was Oasis! It is interesting to note that McGee usually attended concerts where his bands played and in this case it was 18 Wheeler. He would walk in 5 minutes before his bands would play. But on this particular night he attended the concert with his sister Susan and she never owned a watch so they got there two hours early. He had the opportunity to hear this band from Manchester and by the time Oasis did the Beatles cover of "I Am The Walrus", he knew he had to sign the band.
No one ever thought how successful Oasis would become and what a huge impact they would have culturally. Oasis would go on to sell 70 million albums, have 22 top 10 singles and 7 number 1 albums before splitting in 2009.
